Legal Disclaimer
What House Legal is, and how its guides should be used. Updated October 8, 2026.
Published legal information. Not a law firm. Not legal advice.
House Legal is a searchable library of general legal guides and source material. The same guides are published to every reader. House Legal does not answer individual legal questions, review anyone’s facts or documents, or tell anyone what to do.
How the library works
- Guides are general. Guides explain how the law generally works on a topic. They do not apply the law to any person’s situation, and examples in them are hypothetical.
- Search retrieves guides. Search matches the words entered against published guides. It does not generate answers, use AI, or interpret what is typed.
- Jurisdiction is stated. Each guide names the jurisdiction it covers. Law differs between places, and a guide may not describe the law where you are.
- Review status is shown. Guides are drafted with AI assistance. A guide marked “Not yet reviewed by a licensed attorney” has not been checked by a lawyer and may contain errors.
- Dates are shown. Each guide shows when it was last updated. Laws change, and a guide may not reflect recent changes.
No attorney-client relationship
Island Global Company, which operates House Legal, is not a law firm and does not practice law. Reading guides, searching, saving guides, or contacting House Legal does not create an attorney-client relationship, and House Legal does not represent anyone.
Check the sources and get advice when it matters
Guides list the primary sources they rely on so readers can check the law directly. Before acting on anything important, confirm the current law in official sources and consult a licensed attorney in the relevant jurisdiction. Deadlines in particular can depend on facts and procedure. In an emergency, call 911.
